It's prom time and that means, for many girls around the world, it's time to pull out those lovely dresses, whether it be long or short, sparkly or not, to celebrate the big day. Continuing with the "Prom Inspiration" posts that I started up last year, here's the first post for the year 2013.

While browsing through a few dresses online this morning, I came across this lime green Maria Lucia Hohan "Keisha Dress" which I found absolutely stunning.

The silk blend dress features a one shoulder asymmetric design, gold-tone trim at the waist, a concealed rear zip fastening, and a long floor length draped pleated hem.

Also available in this eggshell colour for those who prefer a more toned-down look.

Trend Alert: Barefoot Sandals!

COMMENTS
Happy Wednesday everyone! I just wanted to introduce a new trend that I've been noticing recently - barefoot sandals!

Barefoot sandals are simply this. It's beaded straps or jewelry that you wear on your toes and ankles. Considering that there is absolutely NO soles or heels, barefoot sandals are merely decoration for the feet. It is a popular item among brides at beach weddings, as it would be uncomfortable to wear heels to walk down the aisle...in sand. Imagine toppling over on your big day? Nobody wants that!

I'm not sure I would get in on this trend (though it would be a hot accessory to wear on the beach), but I do adore the many different designs I've come across. Check out a few below, along with the link to purchase them.

Gypsy Purple Barefoot Sandals
Purple Princess Barefoot Sandals
Lotus Barefoot Sandals
Crystal Barefoot Sandals
Turquoise with Crystal Barefoot Sandals
Silver and Turquoise Oval Barefoot Sandals
Bronze Chain with Jewel Tones Barefoot Sandals
Black with Teal Flower Barefoot Sandals

Talkin' Makeup with Sue "The Makeup Girl"

Ashleigh: Tell us a little about yourself.

Sue: My name is Sue-Ann Gregg , popularly known as "The Makeup Girl". I'm a professional makeup artist, certified in Advance Bridal Makeup. I'm also 19, a libra, and currently studying Intergrated Marketing Communication at U.W.I.

Ashleigh: How did you discover your passion for beauty? How did you get started?

Sue: My passion for all things beauty came gradually. I come from a family that does place value on appearance and carrying yourself well. As it relates to makeup, I was exposed to it at a young age as a dancer, and I began playing it in high school. You know, a little lipgloss here, a little eyeliner there. I started thinking about this professionally in mid 2011. I realized I had a knack for it, and I had a lot of persons pushing and supporting me, so I started really practising and doing research. My first photoshoot was on October 2, 2011. I am 100% self taught.

Ashleigh: What is the most exciting or challenging opportunity you have had as a makeup artist?

Sue: Hmm... Fashion Week 2012. The single MOST hectic, fast-paced experience of my life. Loved it.

Ashleigh: If your hands could grace makeup on any face, who would it be?

Sue: Hmm. Usually when I get this question I say Tessanne Chin, but now I know she does her own makeup, so I have to choose someone else. Lol. I would say, maybe Kelly Rowland. She has great features.

Ashleigh: Name one product or tool you can't live without.

Sue: My brushes!!

Ashleigh: If we took a peek inside your makeup kit, what would we see?

Sue: Skin care items, lipsticks, pencils, eyeshadows, primers, brushes, blushes, lashes. Everything & anything makeup related.

Ashleigh: So far, for 2013, what has been your favourite beauty product?

Sue: I have been loving my Ben Nye face powders... They're a must have in my current kit.

Ashleigh: Are there any makeup artists you look up to in the industry?

Sue: Sam Fine, Pat Mcgrath, Kevyn Aucoin, and Mario Dedivanovic.

Ashleigh: What sets you apart from other makeup artists?

Sue: I have a unique style that I have developed over time. Think of it as you would a model's "signature walk". You can just know that The Makeup Girl did her makeup. That's a great thing because it is indeed a highly saturated industry, so I'm very thankful for that uniqueness.

Ashleigh: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Sue: In five years I see myself excelling internationally in this industry and truly building my brand beyond my imagination.

Ashleigh: Any tips or advice you would give to someone just starting?

Sue: Practice , practice , practice & practice. And also, try not to be discouraged by difficulties- stay persistent and you will achieve.

------------------------------------

I find inspiration... through living- seeing new things , meeting new people. Sometimes I'll see a face & think "wow!" and the river of creativity just flows.

The best advice I’ve received is... "just do it yourself". Taught me to be independent and not to wait on anyone. As long as I trust in God, he'll see me through.

My best beauty secret... I can't tell you that it wouldn't be a secret. Just kidding! My best beauty secret is sea salt. Its a great exfoliant , it softens skin and helps to combat acne.

Ashleigh: Describe your style.

KC: Feminine, dainty, and playful.

Ashleigh: Who is your style icon?

KC: Olivia Palermo or Blake Lively - both of these ladies have impeccable style while taking chances. I just love it, and they never disappoint.

Ashleigh: Do you think style is important? Why?

KC: Absolutely! Personal style isn't defined by where you shop but better yet, how you wear your clothes. It gives people the ability to transform themselves and literally effects mood, performance, and perseption. Every girl feels better walking into a crowded room when she feels put together and good about what she has on.

Ashleigh: What makes you feel glamorous?

KC: A good pair of high heels and a floor length dress - nothing beats it. If only I could walk out of the house like that everyday.

Ashleigh: What advice would you give to others that are trying to define their style?

KC: Stay true to what YOU like! So many people try to 'define' style, when in all reality style is something different to everyone. Know your body, what looks good on it (fit is everything in fashion), and experiment.

Ashleigh: Who is your favorite designer?

KC: Ah, this is a tough one. There are so many designers I could list in different categories, but if I had to choose an 'overall' favorite the first one that comes to mind is Kate Spade. That may be surprising as it's not considered a 'staple' designer, but everything the label puts out season after season I LOVE! It's hard to find a designer where you literally love everything single piece, but Kate Spade just does it for me.

Ashleigh: Where are your favourite places to shop?

KC: Everywhere! Haha, no I would have to say I really enjoy shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshalls (designer deals for less, hello.) and online: ShopBop, Zara, and Forever21 for those trendy pieces.

Ashleigh: Name one fashion trend you hate.

KC: The sneaker wedge. Blah. I mean I guess some people love it, I just don't see it.

Ashleigh: When you meet the opposite sex, what's the first thing you notice about them?

KC: Eyes - I've been with my boyfriend for over 6 years and his baby blue eyes get me every time.

Ashleigh: What look/style do you like best for guys?

KC: I generally like the more laid-back, but put together look. If only I could get the BF more into fashion! Haha. Masculine looks like a dark wash jeans, brown shoes, and button down are a classic put together look. Maybe adding in a cardigan or sweater vest when appropriate.
