Happy Birthday to me !

Today (June 30) I celebrate 17 years of being on this beautiful place called Earth. It is indeed a wonderful blessing to see yet another year, and for that I thank the most important person in my life, God! My day has been pretty great so far, & I just want to thank those who have been wishing me Happy Birthday. I appreciate it & I'm looking forward to my birthday party on Saturday! Ashleigh: Describe your style.

 

Candy Renee: I would say very trendy. I love punk rock inspired clothing, I absolutely love leather, lace and black.

Ashleigh: Who is your style icon?

 

Candy Renee: I would have to say Daphne Guinness. I also love Solange Knowles and Cassie.

Ashleigh: Do you think style is important? Why?

 

Candy Renee: Its simple. You can't buy style. Style is something you have to grown into and when you do you have to own it. For e.g., confidence and the attitude you have when you wear your clothes are a part of your style. A lady who always wears trendy clothes with no "spin" or "remix" to her outfit is simply a lady who follows trends..without the trends she probably wouldn't know what to do with herself.

Ashleigh: What makes you feel glamorous?

 

Candy Renee: A great pair of sunglasses!

Ashleigh: What advice would you give to others that are trying to define their style?

 

Candy Renee: Have a moment with yourself, think about the type of clothes that make you comfortable, read lots of magazines and learn how to wear those pieces and put your spin on it,take a bunch of clothes and just try and try and try and mix everything.I guarantee you will come up with something.

Ashleigh: Who is your favorite designer?

 

Candy Renee: Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs.

Ashleigh: Where are your favourite places to shop?

 

Candy Renee: Topshop, Bloomingdales, H&M, SAKS and vintage stores.

Ashleigh: Name one fashion trend you hate.

 

Candy Renee: Harem pants.

Ashleigh: When you meet the opposite sex, what is the first thing you notice about them?

 

Candy Renee: Their watch. If they aren't wearing one it's a complete turn off.

Ashleigh: What look/style do you like best for guys?

 

Candy Renee: I love biker jackets and scarfs and a good pair of sunglasses!

Versace for H&M

Interesting news! H&M will be collaborating with Italian brand Versace!

The newest collaboration will hit stores November 17th. According to the Huffington Post, “The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses featuring studded leather, silk and colorful print, with accessories including high heels and costume jewelery. The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including ‘the perfect tuxedo’, as well as belts and jewelery, while for the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, the collection will include some homeware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread.”

In a statement, Donatella Versace said, “I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.”

Interview with: Makeup Artist Loni Jones

I'm sure you've all read the great interview I had with makeup artist Cindi Marvelous, now it's time to check out the newest one I did with stunning Jamaican makeup artist, Loni Jones. Loni tells us about her journey to becoming a makeup artist, where she gets her inspiration from, and goals she has for herself in the next 10 years !

Ashleigh: How did you get started as a makeup artist? Tell us a little about your journey from aspiring artist to your current career.

Loni: Started out assisting other makeup artists on different types of shoots. Eventually my talent grew and I was able to branch out on my own. From the very beginning of my career till now, its been nothing but fun but a lot hard work and long hours. I love every minute of it!!

Ashleigh: Do you think going to school for makeup artistry is important to excel in the business?

Loni: Enrolling in a school for makeup isn't the end all be all of your career. Most famous artists today are self taught and had no formal training. A piece of paper saying you attended a particular school doesn't mean you'll excel. Its how you deal with your clients, the end result of your work and your attitude towards your work that will determine your success as a makeup artist.

Ashleigh: Your favourite or most exciting aspect of your job is?

Loni: Most exciting is being on film location shoots. Music videos, commercial shoots and movie sets! Long hours but I enjoy every minute of it!

Ashleigh: What’s a typical day like for Loni Jones?

Loni: Well being that I don't work everyday, a typical 'at home' day is spent at my laptop checking out new products online, replying to emails from clients, blogging and tweeting! :)

Ashleigh: Where do you look for/find inspiration for your work? What are your influences? Do you have specific styles that you enjoy more than others?

Loni: Inspiration comes from any and everything... From something like food to textiles. My favorite style of makeup is beauty and editorial! I love them all though!

Ashleigh: What are your most favourite products that you’re never found without?

Loni: Lipgloss, eyeliner and mascara

Ashleigh: If you didn’t choose doing makeup as a career, what other tracks would you have taken?

Loni: I probably would've been sucked into a 9-5 job in a cooperate setting. But I would've stuck with graphic design since that was my major in college.

Ashleigh: What’s the biggest beauty mistake women make?

Loni: Women's biggest mistake with beauty is not trying anything at all!

Ashleigh: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What goals do you have for yourself?

Loni: 10years, successful makeup and possibly skin care line!

Ashleigh: What advice would you give to other aspiring makeup artists or anyone wanting to get into the beauty industry?

Loni: Its not a game, its serious business and if handled as that there's lots of success to be gained!

10 Lessons Life Taught Me

So I've been asked by a reader to do this for a while now. There are many things life has taught me, some of those lessons I've come to accept, while some I'm still learning to. I'll share just 10 for now and will continue to do so in other posts.


1. Change is inevitable. - You just have to go with the flow. Nothing will ever remain the same, and so you just have to accept change and move on.

2. Believe in yourself. - You are the most important person in your life. You can do just about anything if you put your mind to it and believe that you can. Plus, if you don't believe in yourself, then how do you expect anyone to believe in you?

3. Follow your dreams. Never give up. - If you do this, everything will work out in your favour.

4. Learn to forgive, forget and let go !

5. Always have a positive attitude and be optimistic. - If you focus on negativity, that's all you'll obviously see. Why not focus on the bright side of life and live positive?

6. It makes no sense you sit there and hate anyone. Life is too short!

7. Believe in miracles. They really do happen.

8. You're always learning. - It's true when they say the older you get, the wiser you become. At every point in your life, remain open-minded. Always be prepared to learn new things because there will always be something there that you do not know.

9. Helping others is a great feeling. - No matter how big or small your deed may be, it's a wonderful thing. I believe that you haven't started living unless you have helped others, and have been able to experience seeing a smile on someone's face you have helped.

10. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Ashleigh: Describe your style.

Candice: If I had to choose one word to describe my style it would be flirty, simply because my hair is so wild and curly! I like to mix sexy with cute but it really depends on the mood I'm in :)

Ashleigh: Who is your style icon? 

Candice: My style icon is definitely Rihanna! I love how versatile and unpredictable she is. I really admire the Kardashians too, Kourtney in particular.

Ashleigh: Do you think style is important? Why?

Candice: Yes. Style is important because it says a lot about you, first impression really does go a long mile! I'm the type of girl who wants to look cute even if I'm even in my PJs so I guess that makes me conscious about what I'm wearing and how I look.

Ashleigh: What makes you feel glamorous?

Candice: Hair and make-up!! :)

Ashleigh: What advice would you give to others that are trying to define their style?

Candice: Style isn't about copying someone else's look or trying to look as good as someone else. It's all about what you are comfortable in and what makes you feel good and confident! Confidence says a lot! It screams 'I AM BOLD', its sexy! It's that style that will never go out of fashion :) When you can put something on and feel yourself in it, that's your style!!

Ashleigh: Who is your favourite designer?

Candice: Because I am so obsessed with shoes, Christian Louboutin!

Ashleigh: Where are your favourite places to shop?

Candice: Forever 21! They are so fun and cute!

Ashleigh: Name one fashion trend you hate.

Candice: Forcing a top into a dress! *thumbs down*

Ashleigh: When you meet the opposite sex, what is the first thing you notice about them?

Candice: Its somewhere between the watch and the shoes, my eyes are always competing for those two lol

Ashleigh: What look/style do you like best for guys?

Candice:Simplicity does it for me! A nice shirt, nicely fitted jeans (not too tight may I stress), simple jewellery, and top it off with a nice cologne.
